Update: A brand new generator has been installed at the community hall! The woodchoppers were able to contribute $12,000 towards this fundraiser through their woodchopping efforts, far exceeding their original $3000 goal! Now the hall will be able to apply for emergency shelter status in case of prolonged power outages or other emergencies.
The Greenangels choppers have taken on a new commitment, this time to help out the entire community by supporting the drive to purchase a generator for our community hall.
Pender Island normally loses power a few times during the winter due to wind storms or snow storms and the hall doesn’t have backup power. This winter, it really hit home when the power went out just before the choral concert was about to start. The performance and audience were moved to the school gym but not without a lot of extra effort. It became eveident that having a generator at the hall would be invaluable, not only for events but also as another gathering place in case of emergencies.
The woodchoppers committed to chop 30 cords or $3000 to kick off the fund raiser. And all the cords were spoken for withing a few days, thanks to a very supportive Pender community!
