In September 2011, Cilla Brooke ( chair MIHCA 2007-2012 ) and the Mayne Island Health Centre Association Board, launched a fundraising initiative to raise funds toward a 350 sq. ft. addition to the Emergency Room wing of the Health Centre.
The ER at the time, also used as a treatment room, was overcrowded, cluttered and difficult to keep clean. The need was for one room to be dedicated to emergency treatment only, leaving the other room a treatment/isolation room for possible infectious cases. Also badly needed, was space for enclosed storage for sterile supplies and equipment.
“We felt sure the majority of Mayne Islanders valued their Health Centre and given the opportunity would choose to contribute financially to ensure that it remained a facility in which their medical needs and the needs of their Health Care Professionals can be safely met”….Cilla Brooke.
The overwhelming and immediate response of the community propelled the building project ahead. In September 2012, our goal was met. Construction began in December.
The new Urgent Care Room was operational in April 2013.
Greenangels is delighted to have played a part in realizing this project.
