“Whatever their differences, both liberal capitalism and Marxist socialism committed themselves totally to this vision of industrial progress which more than any other single cause has brought about the disintegration that is taking place throughout the entire planet. By a supreme irony this closing down of the basic life systems of the earth has resulted from a commitment to the betterment of the human condition, to progress.” ‘The Dream of the Earth’, Thomas Berry

I came across this quote this week & was trying to make sense of how closing down life systems could be defined as progress, death improves our life?

Then life interrupted all over the news & a friend sent me this:

We will always love you,

Feb 5/12 – An Idea Worth Spreading

I was going to write something relating to Peace this morning & had a quote from Karl Malantes’ Book, ‘What It Is Like To Go To War’: “The substitute for war is not peace; peace is a seldom achieved political state of being. The substitutes are spirituality, love, art, & creativity, all achievable through individual hard work.”

I got a little hung up on the word ‘individual’ & then a friend sent me the following Ted talk & I thought what else can I say?

Would you take the next 18 minutes & be sure to go right to the end.
